Career development

Our career advisers are actuaries who would be happy to provide independent comment on a career as an actuary. If you’d like speak directly to an actuary about what it is like working in the different fields, what actuaries do in their day-to-day role etc, then the careers team will be happy to put you in touch with someone.

They will first speak with you briefly to see if we can offer the relevant advice and support. If we can, we will arrange further telephone discussions or face-to-face follow-up meetings with an actuary who best fits your enquiry.

Please contact the careers team for further information, email careers@actuaries.org.uk or call +44 (0)1865 268265.

We also have some career models of actuaries working in finance, investment and risk management. The career models describe how the actuaries made the transition to this area of work, and offer tips and advice for anyone considering a similar move.

If you are a qualified (or near qualified) actuary looking to move from a traditional actuarial area to the field of finance and investment, you may be interested in the finance and investment career mentors. These are senior people in finance and investment who can advise on making the transition. If you would like to be put in touch with one of the mentors, please contact Kirstin Lambert for further information, email kirstin.lambert@actuaries.org.uk.
