Honorary Fellows

The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries annually seeks nominations from its membership of individuals who might be invited to put their name forward for election as an Honorary Fellow. The nominees should be individuals who are seen to add value to the profession and have an active ongoing involvement with the IFoA.

Honorary Fellows may choose to take the designation HonFIA or HonFFA. They have the same voting rights as Fellows but are not subject to a member subscription fee. Honorary Fellows are currently not subject to the Actuaries’ Code, although the profession would expect them to behave in way that would not damage the reputation of the IFoA.

Nominations are now open for Honorary Fellows

Based on the current bye-laws and subsequent guidance provided by Council, Honorary Fellow nominees should be individuals who:

  • "...have achieved distinction in related fields or given significant service to the actuarial profession." (bye-law 37);
  • can add value to the profession;
  • have a direct connection with the profession;
  • have an ongoing relationship with the profession.

Further to this, proposed Honorary Fellows will also be considered through the extent to which they can support the profession's strategy.

Nominations will be open until Friday 1 November 2013.

All nominations require a proposer and seconder.

Please complete the nomination form by clicking here.  If you have any questions please contact Lorraine Atherton.

John Hibbert elected as an Honorary Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries

Fellows and Associates were recently asked by Council to vote on the election of John Hibbert as an Honorary Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.

We are delighted to announce that the outcome of the vote was in favour of the proposal and that John will be installed as the first Honorary Fellow since the merger of the Institute and Faculty.

John, a well know figure in the risk management field, has shown clear evidence of thought leadership through his work in mainstream actuarial work; through his interactions with the IFoA and with academia, and through the innovation that he has brought to risk management through his research.  Many of our members will be familiar with John as one of the founders of Barrie & Hibbert, which is now part of Moody’s.

John will be formally presented with his award at the Autumn Lecture in Edinburgh on 7 October 2013. To sign up for this event, please click here
