Mutual recognition of qualifications

Currently, the agreements are in the name of the Institute of Actuaries as the MRAs were entered into before 1 August 2010. The Faculty of Actuaries had entered into similar agreements before 1 August 2010 but post-merger, these MRAs have ceased to apply. The current MRAs in the name of the Institute of Actuaries continue to apply as if the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries had signed the agreements.

If an applicant successfully applies for mutual recognition under these MRAs, they will be admitted as either an Associate or Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.

The MRAs are under review and will be updated to reflect the change of name to the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in due course.

Groupe Consultatif Agreement

Actuaries who have qualified in EU countries may apply under the Groupe Consultatif Agreement.

Before making an application under this agreement you must be:

• a fully qualified member of your association
• an EU national
• living and working for the majority of time in the UK or on UK related work
• have a minimum of two years' practical experience in an EU country (either your home country or the UK) before a one-year supervised adaptation period can commence.

You can then either study one of the specialist applications subjects, or you can undergo a one-year supervised adaptation period.

Whichever route you choose, you must apply for Affiliate membership with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries so we can send you relevant news and information.
