Improved online catalogue

22 November 2010

As a result of feedback by our users, the online library catalogue has now been improved.

The online catalogue, which offers access to 40,000 actuarial books, research papers and articles, now has a 'simple search' and an 'advanced search' option.

The initial search page offers a ‘simple search’, where all the search terms that have been entered will be combined.
All catalogue records that contain all the terms you searched for - anywhere in the description - will be returned. This will give a wide range of results.

If you want to do a more specific search, please click on the link to the 'Advanced search', which will offer you more specific options to narrow down your search.
Here, you can search on specific fields (such as title, author or journal title) or a combination of fields.
The 'Advanced search' searches for the terms you enter as a phrase, unless you combine the terms with & (AND), / (OR) or ! (NOT).

Both the 'simple' and 'advanced' search will allow you to search on electronic documents, documents from the Actuarial Profession’s website, or journal articles only.

Please see http://actuaries.soutron.net/ for the new system. Help texts are provided for further information.
