CPD and Events
This page provides background on continuing professional development (CPD) requirements and opportunities.
The Institute and Faculty requires that each member take individual responsibility for their own CPD. The criteria for fulfilling your requirements can be viewed here.
Attendance at events can help you fulfil your CPD requirements. The Institute and Faculty holds a wide range of planned events, ranging from the residential conferences (such as the annual pensions conference), to seminars and networking events.
There are also sessional research events, which are disucssion meetings where the (preliminary) results or ideas of evidence based research are discussed amongst actuaries. hey are intended to advance the knowledge base of actuaries and raise the Profile of the Institute and Faculty as a learned society.
The Institute and Faculty has also recently launched a new 'Regional Actuarial Activity' section on the 'Members' section of the website. These pages include information on local actuarial groups, their events, contact information and details about how to get involved.
Online CPD from events is accessible at your convenience, through the audio and video archive.
The effort our volunteers put into their roles makes our organisation stronger and more vibrant and they are a key reason why our small profession makes such an important impact. If you would like to find out ways in which you can volunteer please visit Getting involved and take a look at our Volunteer vacancies webpage.
Many volunteer vacancies entitle members to claim CPD.
- Private study
Members can also claim CPD as a result of private study to build on their existing qualifications. For further information see our qualifications and exams pages and our reading list page. In undertaking any reading or study connected to a volunteer task you may be able to record verifiable private study under the Institute and Faculty's CPD Scheme.
