Finance and investment CPD
These pages provide background on continuing professional development (CPD) requirements and opportunities.
CPD requirements
The Profession requires that each member takes individual responsibility for their own CPD. The criteria for fulfilling your requirements can be viewed here.
CPD opportunities
- Events
Attendance at events can help you fulfil your CPD requirements. The Profession holds a wide range of planned events ranging from residential conferences (such as the annual Risk and Investment Conference) to seimnars and networking events.
There are also sessional research events which are discussion meetings where the (preliminary) results or ideas of evidence based research are discussed amongst actuaries. They are intended to advance the knowledge base of actuaries and raise the profile of the Profession as a learned society.
The Profession has also recently launched a new 'Regional Actuarial Activity' section on the 'Members' section of the website. These pages include information on local actuarial groups, their events, contact information and details about how to get involved.
Papers from events may be downloaded by searching the document library or visit the paper and presentation archive.
Online CPD from events is accessible at your convenience, through the audio and video archive.
Volunteering
The effort our volunteers put into their roles makes our organisation stronger and more vibrant and they are a keen reason why our small profession makes such a big impact. If you would like to find out ways in which you can volunteer please visit Getting involved and take a look at our Volunteers vacancies page.
Private study
Members can also gain CPD as a result of private study to build on their existing qualifications. For example members wishing to develop their knowledge about derivatives may wish to consider taking subject ST6 (Finance and investment, Specialist technical B). For further information see our qualifications and exams pages and our reading list page. In undertaking any reading or study connected to a volunteer task you may be able to record verifiable private study under the Profession's CPD Scheme.
