CPD opportunities

  • Events:
Attendance at events can help you fulful your CPD requirements. The profession holds a wide range of planned events, ranging from the residential conferences (like the annual Life Conference), to seminars and networking events.

There are also sessional research events which are discussion meetings, where the (preliminary) results or ideas of evidence based research are discussed amongst actuaries. They are intended to advance the knowledge base of actuaries and raise the profile of the Profession as a learned society.

The profession has also recently launched a new ‘Regional Actuarial Activity’ section on the 'Members' section of the website. These pages include, information on local actuarial groups, their events, contact information and details on how to get involved.

Papers from events may be downloaded by searching the document library or paper and presentation archive specifically.

Online CPD from events is accessible at your convenience, through the audio and video archive.

  • Volunteering:
The effort our volunteers put into their roles makes our organisation stronger and more vibrant and they are a key reason why our small profession makes such an important impact. If you would like to find out ways in which you can volunteer, please visit Getting involved and take a look at our Volunteer vacancies webpage where you will find a list of current volunteer vacancies.

Many volunteer vacancies entitle members to claim CPD.

  • Private study:
Members can also gain CPD as a result of private study to build on their existing qualifications. For further information see qualifications and exams pages and our reading list page. In undertaking any reading or study connected to a volunteer task, you may be able to record verifiable private study under the profession's CPD Scheme.

Please note, it will be up to each individual member to assess the amount of time they have spent, to maintain their own CPD records, and to record the learning outcome achieved from the private study.

For more information, please consult the profession's CPD Scheme.
