Pensions Conference 2011. Review of Workshop D3: Public sector schemes: the future from the arrangement's perspective
| Speaker: | John Livesy, Mercer |

Despite broad agreement to the requirement for change in public sector pensions, debate still continues as to the whether the Hutton review and other changes were a wasted opportunity.
For those without detailed experience of the public sector, the session contained a good summary of the various schemes and related issues.
In addition the session offered some insight into Scheme Actuaries’ views on the general (and in some cases, lack of) good governance of some public sector schemes and potential involvement of the Pensions Regulator.
It was good to hear others’ views on the consultation on Fair Deal and Hutton’s principle of restricting access to public sector schemes only to “public sector workers”.
A key question which remained after this session was why wasn’t Hilary Salt allowed more input into the Hutton Review?
