Professional Skills Course (PSC)
This page tells you about the Professional Skills Course (Stage 2 of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries' (IFoA) mandatory Professional Skills Training), whether this applies to you and how to book a course.
Who is required to take the PSC?
You need to do the PSC:
- before you can apply to transfer to the category of Associate
- between the 4th and 6th anniversary of your admission to the IFoA, if you joined on or after 1 July 2006 or
- within a year of qualifying as a Fellow (i.e. transferring to the category of Fellow).
whichever comes first.
Why do I need to do the PSC?
The PSC is stage 2 of the IFOA's mandatory Professional Skills Training developed for members at all stages in their careers.
About the PSC
The course is designed to build upon the Stage 1 Online Professional Awareness Test while recognising the increasing levels of responsibility placed upon you at this stage in your career.
You will explore concepts of professionalism, awareness of the Actuaries' Code, and business ethics.
You will be expected to be equipped to manage, and where possible prevent, the ethical dilemmas which may arise in your area of expertise and to exercise appropriate judgement and decisions to resolve them.
