Memoir of the early history of auxilliary tables for the computation of life contingencies
Document description
First article of the Assurance Magazine which became Journal of the Institute of Actuaries. It covers the development of actuarial tables that allowed early actuaries to compute values of annuities and then life assurances. The work of German Johann Nicolaus Tetens ca. 1785 (working in Denmark) was first exposed in this paper as a pioneer in presenting commutation tables to British actuaries. Until then Francis Baily had shown the innovations of work by George Barrett.
