CMI Working paper 53
Working paper 53. An initial investigation into rates of mortality improvement for pensioners of self-administered pension schemes.
Working paper 53 presents a high level analysis of the mortality improvements experienced within the SAPS dataset over the period 2001 to 2009. The analysis has used standardised mortality ratios to analyse the mortality improvements experience and to compare the experience for the following datasets:
- SAPS dataset versus the England & Wales (E&W) population dataset (collected by the Office for National Statistics). Improvements derived from the E&W population data is the basis for the CMI Mortality Projections Model.
- Male and female pensioners with different pension amounts.
- Male pensioners versus female pensioners.
The Committee was considering whether to investigate further the feasibility of undertaking a more detailed and rigorous statistical analysis of mortality improvements experienced within the SAPS dataset, for a possible future working paper. However, subsequent feedback in respect of the draft version of working paper 53, released to members in April 2011, indicated that the high level analysis presented here is valuable and that further research is not considered to be a high priority.
