We can grant exemption from our exams to students who have passed Institute of Actuaries of India exams.

Institute of Actuaries of India Core Technical exams awarded after 1 May 2005

We will give exemption to students who have passed core technical exams under the previous Institute of Actuaries of India syllabus. Students will be awarded exemption from the corresponding exam under the current syllabus.

Institute of Actuaries of India exam: Exemption from IFoA exam:
Any of CT1, CT2, CT3, CT4, CT5, CT6, CT7 or CT8 The corresponding CT exam

Students who have passed the Institute of Actuaries of India CT9 Business awareness online module from the June 2013 session onwards can apply for exemption from subject CT9.

If you are eligible for exemptions from any of the CT subjects, you could also use these to claim exemption from relevant Certified Actuarial Analyst modules.

Institute of Actuaries of India Core Applications exams awarded after 1 May 2005

To apply for exemption from our core applications subjects you must have passed these subjects with the Institute of Actuaries of India before we can consider your application.

CA2 Model documentation, analysis and reporting
Following the changes to the structure of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries’ CA2 exam in March 2015 exemptions are not available for students who passed this exam with the IAI after 4 March 2015.

If you are eligible for exemption from CA2 based on a pass before 4 March 2015, you could also use this to claim exemption from Module 5 of the Certified Actuarial Analyst qualification.

Institute of Actuaries of India Specialist Technical exams awarded after 1 May 2005

To apply for exemption from our specialist technical subjects you must have passed two specialist technical subjects with the Institute of Actuaries India before we can consider your application.

Information for students with degrees from universities in India

The IFoA will consider exemption applications from students with Indian higher educational qualifications who have graduated with degrees from

  • the Indian Statistical Institute, See this page for details of the exemption agreement we have with ISI
  • an Institute of Technology, or an Institute of Management. If you have graduated from an Institute of Technology, or an Institute of Management and wish to apply for exemptions you should follow the process set out in section 3 of the notes on the exemption application form.

Exemptions will not be granted to students with degrees from any other universities in India.

Institute of Actuaries of India exams passed between November 2000 and 1 May 2005

We can give exemption to students who have passed the 100 series exams and subject 201 under the previous Institute of Actuaries of India syllabus.
