Welcome to the Toronto regional group.

The Toronto Members’ Group was formed:

  • to provide an access point to Institute and Faculty of Actuaries' (IFoA's) members currently living in or considering a move to Ontario
  • to discuss the confluence of standards and best practices across geographic jurisdictions
  • to understand the student journey and continuing education requirements
  • to facilitate social and networking opportunities
  • to provide UK professionalism credits.

Rachel Gow

Rachel Gow, Chairman

Rachel is a Fellow of the IFoA and moved to Toronto, Canada in 2014 from Dublin, Ireland. She works in General Insurance, specialising in pricing R&D. Rachel has a Bachelors degree from University College Dublin.

Rachel is the founder of the Toronto Members’ Group and is also an education volunteer for the IFoA.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Jason Alleyne, Committee Member

Jason holds the distinction of the fellowship designation with the SOA, CIA and IA. Jason is also the vice chair of the CIA’s Communications Committee and a senior member of the SOA’s Education Committee. Jason is the COO of an InsureTech start-up, the first true peer to peer risk sharing platform in the world. Jason has worked in product development, risk management, software development for both life and P&C insurance products as well as equity based guarantees. Jason has worked in Canada, UK and the Caribbean and was born in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.

Laura Ni

Laura Ni, Committee Member

Laura is an actuarial analyst at Farm Mutual Reinsurance Plan in Cambridge Ontario. Working in the Analytical Services team, she develops customized pricing solutions to support P&C mutual insurance companies across Ontario. Laura graduated from the Master of Actuarial Science program at the University of Waterloo in 2013. She has work experience in both General Insurance and Life & Health areas, which includes an 8-month internship at Swiss Re UK.

Matthew Smith

Matthew Smith, Committee Member

Matthew is the Head of Global Research at Pacific Life Re and is responsible for best estimate assumption setting and Economic Capital model development across longevity, mortality and morbidity lines of business in Europe, North America and Asia. He has been with Pacific Life Re for 8 years, initially as a Pricing Actuary and then as the Head of Research for the UK and Ireland before re-locating to Toronto and extended his role to a Global Position.

Matthew is a keen presenter and volunteer within the UK actuarial profession and has produced a number of papers and presentations in the UK on topics such as Income Protection, Worldwide Cancer Trends and Critical Illness Pricing.
