A recent McKinsey Global Institute’s report stated that data and analytics capabilities have made a leap forward in recent years. The volume of available data has grown exponentially, more sophisticated algorithms have been developed, and computational power and storage have steadily improved. The convergence of these trends is fueling rapid technology advances and business disruptions.

We have asked two of our members to talk about what data science is and share the research they have done into the role actuaries might play in this expanding field. There will be a chance to ask questions at the end. Please register via the book now link below.

Guest Speakers

Mark LeeMark Lee has a PhD in theoretical quantum physics from the University of Oxford, and over 20 years of academic research experience in numerical computing, mathematical modelling and data analysis.

In 2016, he joined Insight Risk Consulting, an actuarial consultancy with clients across London Market, personal and commercial lines insurers.

Mark specialises in data analysis and constructing actuarial models, with an emphasis on applying data science and machine learning techniques to actuarial problems within the general insurance sector.

 

 

StelioStelio Passaris is a systems actuary, specialising in modelling solutions, process improvement, and system automation.

He is a Senior Actuarial Manager at FIS, the world’s largest financial software company, where he provides consulting support on Prophet, the global leader in actuarial projection software.
