About the speakers

Seamus Creedon FIA ASA MAAA CERA

Seamus Creedon is an independent non-executive director at four financial services firms – two on each side of the Irish Sea and embracing life and non-life insurance and asset management. An actuary by profession, he was formerly a partner in the London firm KPMG. He was responsible for leading the provision of actuarial audit and advisory services to KPMG clients in several European countries. Seamus had previously been associated with Bank of Ireland, Abbey Life Group, and Irish Life.

He led the volunteer involvement of the European actuarial profession (through the then Groupe Consultatif Actuariel European) in the Solvency II development for several years. He served five years as a stakeholder representative to EIOPA until April 2016.

 

Kalpana Shah BSc FIA

Following an early career on the trading floor working in Business Development and later Chief Statistician for the London Commodity Exchange, Kalpana went on to become deputy to the Director of Underwriting at Groupama Gan and then longstanding Group Chief Actuary and Partner at Hiscox. She is currently Non-Executive Director at Riverstone (a Fairfax Company) where she is Chairman of RiverStone Managing Agency and Chairs the Audit Committee of RiverStone Insurance Company. She is also Non-Executive Director at Asta Managing Agency and Barnet Unitas (a children’s charity).

In 2018, Kalpana appeared in the Financial Times Top 100 ethnic minority leaders list and Green Parks Top 100 BAME leaders in business list. She serves on iNED committees for both the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and the Worshipful Company of Insurers and is also a member of the 30% Club.

 

Alan Rae BSc FFA

Alan Rae is a business-oriented Actuary and Non-Executive Director with over 30 years’ executive experience in the Insurance Industry up to Finance Director level, and as a Partner in an international consulting firm.

A seasoned Non-Executive Director having held directorships in many European Countries over the last 20 years. From 2009-2018 he was a Non-Executive Director at Friends First in Ireland; heavily involved in the recent sale of Friends First to Aviva. In 2016/7 he completed the INSEAD International Directors Programme studying best practice in Corporate Governance and the role of the Non-Executive Director.

Alan is a member of the Working Party of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries recently set up to produce guidance to Actuary NEDs.

 

Jane Barrett 

Jane is the founder of The Career Farm and co-author of ‘Taking Charge of Your Career’ (Bloomsbury 2017). 

She has worked in recruitment and careers for over 20 years in Asia, USA and Europe.  She regularly hosts webinars on career development topics, has a podcast on itunes called 'Grow your own career' and is a guest lecturer on career development at European Business Schools.
