Be part of something new

We’re searching for a global academic expert to become one of our Associate Directors  helping us to ensure our research and thought leadership is cutting edge and industry relevant.

Our new Associate Director will play a leading role in providing quality assurance and excellence of all research delivered through the IFoA’s Actuarial Research Centre (ARC), advising our Research and Thought Leadership board on a research agenda that is multi-disciplinary in nature, international in scope, often delivered in partnership with other organisations and that seeks to combine academic rigour with practitioner insight. The Associate Director will also act as a ‘key ambassador’ of the ARC, promoting its activity and building further global collaboration.

Increasingly, actuaries are at the heart of modern business and government. Branching out from our core fields of insurance and pensions, today you’ll find our members working in fields as diverse as agriculture, behavioural economics, data science and climate change and more.

Just as the industries within which we work become more multifaceted, data-driven and global in scope, so the core actuarial skillset is developing to meet the challenges this complexity brings. The constant evolution of this skillset – and its applications far beyond the boundaries of what were considered traditional actuarial fields, means there is a need to ensure we remain on the leading edge of actuarial science.

To achieve this the IFoA Actuarial Research Centre (ARC) was established in 2012 to deliver industry relevant research in the field of actuarial science. Encompassing a wide range of projects, institutions, organisations and researchers from around the world, the ARC aims to be a virtual global network of researchers and partner organisations, participating in the delivery of industry-relevant, high quality actuarial research, on behalf of the IFoA.

The time commitment for the ARC Associate Director is expected to be around 15 days per year. The appointee’s institution will be compensated for their time focused on the operation of the ARC, and the role will not confer employment status with the IFoA. As this role has a substantial ambassadorial component, the applicant will be expected to be able to demonstrate the IFoA’s values of Community, Integrity and Progress. The applicant should also be fluent English speaking, with other languages beneficial. Closing date 20th July.
