At the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries’ (IFoA) Annual General Meeting on 26 June 2019, the new President John Taylor launched our new certificate in Data Science.

Available in 2020, the standalone online Certificate in Data Science will be available to members at all stages of their careers, wherever they are located across the globe.

It will focus on areas such as Data Visualisation, Machine Learning, AI and Ethics, and the relevance of these to the future work of our members in established and newer areas of actuarial work. As this is such a fast-moving field, it is expected that Certificate holders will also need to demonstrate relevant elements of continuing professional development (CPD) within their normal annual CPD requirement.

We will be finalising development of the Certificate over the next few months and expect enrolment to start in March 2020. More details will be available on our website shortly, alongside an opportunity to express interest in registering for this credential.

This Certificate builds on the huge range of data science activities conducted by the IFoA over recent years, ranging from our Data Science Summit in 2017 and a strategic data science partnership with the Royal Statistical Society, to our hugely successful virtual conference in 2019.

The IFoA Certificate in Data Science will demonstrate the unique value for members arising from the synergy between the domains of actuarial and data science.
