In this webcast the National Institute for Economic and Social Research (NIESR) explains recently commissioned IFoA research 'The Impact of Possible Migration Scenarios After 'Brexit' on the State Pension System.'

Dr. Angus Armstrong, head of Macroeconomics at NIESR, lists the main conclusions of the research that looks at how changes in migration levels could impact the sustainability of the State Pension system.  Dr. Armstrong also explains in detail which policy options the UK government has in order to offset these changes.

This research and its conclusions are relevant in many debates, but are particularly relevant to the EU Referendum debate.  Migration and it benefits and drawbacks, is currently one of the main issues being debated in the EU Referendum campaign.  However this research will also be particularly relevant to future debates, should the Government plan to look at the viability of the current pensions system, or when it looks to improve its immigration policy.

In the webcast, Derek Cribb, Chief Executive of the IFoA,  recommends that policy makers closely look at the multitude of consequences of policy development, and for them to take the recommendations of this research to heart.
