Finance & Investment Board update

December 2022

Bradley Shearer shares an update on the IFoA F&I Board’s activities

Our Finance & Investment Board met virtually once again on Thursday 1st December. One of the aspects I love about the Board is how diverse and broad it is, covering Finance and Investments, the Banking community, and the Economics and Non-Executive Director (NED) MIGs. Our members are based around the world, and many of us have roles in other IFoA communities too.

The main topics we discussed as a Board were:

> our global objectives for the 2022/2023 term

> how we continue to lead on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) as the IFoA strategy gathers momentum (and it opens its overall survey in Q1 2023), including collaboration with other bodies across the financial sector

> the IFoA’s new Practice Board Committee overseeing the various practice areas

> the activities and research outputs of our working parties, plus potential new working parties

> our webinars & events for members, including from September to December:

> the 2023 cross-practice hybrid conference (26th/27th June) - we’re co-chairing the lifelong learning organising committee, working with the IFoA to explore how today’s actuary is fit and thriving in uncertainty, and the Call for Speakers is now open

> the upcoming digital community platform, and how we could use it to serve our members (via discussions, updates, links and more), across our online profiles

> regulatory consultations & policy responses (including Treasury’s review of Solvency II and the Work and Pensions Committee inquiry into Defined Benefit pensions with liability driven investments), led by the IFoA’s Policy and Public Affairs team

> the IFoA’s approach to building relationships with employers, and the employer proposition [presented by Richard Scott, the IFoA’s Global Partnerships Manager]

If you’re a member, or supporter, of the Finance & Investment community, please do send me a message on LinkedIn – I’d love to hear your thoughts on the support you would like, how you entered the world of Finance, Investments, Banking, Economics and/or NED roles, the value actuaries can and do add in finance, investment and banking organisations, and whether this update was helpful!
