The General Insurance (GI) Education and Continuing Professional Development Sub-committee (ECPD) plays an important role in ensuring the education of GI actuaries is kept as up to date and relevant as possible.

Commenting on the benefits of volunteering and the value added to the profession by the committee, Chair, Paul Grimsey and Deputy Chair, Seema Thaper, stated: "Having a keen interest in education and the direction in which the profession was heading, meant that getting involved in the GI ECPD committee was a natural step for us. Education doesn't stop at qualifying and being part of the committee has really helped to broaden our perspectives beyond the areas that we focus on at work.

There are many benefits to volunteering for the IFoA, including building your network and having your voice is heard in your profession. Joining the GI ECPD committee offers the opportunity to help shape the future of the profession - from the syllabus our students are examined on to the CPD available through the one day seminars which are an important way for a number of actuaries to gain ongoing development and keep abreast of changes in the profession.

As you will have seen, the IFoA are making changes to education more widely and the GI ECPD committee has the opportunity to be involved in that process. The GI ECPD committee are currently seeking committed and enthusiastic individuals who would be willing to give up some of their time to help advance the work we do. We are currently exploring ways to improve the CPD available and would particularly like to hear from anyone with ideas on how to do this, anyone interested in pulling together the seminar programmes or chairing such events."

The GI ECPD volunteer vacancy closes on 31 October. If you would like to discuss any aspect of this role before applying, please contact Practices Manager, Sharon Cumberbatch who can put you in touch with Paul or Seema.
