Health and Care Specialist Principles and Advanced (SP1 and SA1) are key assessments for students working in the field of health and care. For the new curriculum we have developed learning material covering changes in the health and care environment, the products sold, the legislative and regulatory environment, risks and risk management and pricing. Key developments include for SA1 drawing on examples from different territories. In particular looking at the health care challenges in different markets around the world.

Health and Care Principles (SP1)

Specialist Principles

The aim of Health and Care Principles (SP1) is to develop a student’s ability to apply, in simple situations, the main principles of actuarial planning and control that are relevant to the provision of health and care business.
 
It builds on material covered in earlier subjects and seeks to equip a student with the skills and broad working understanding of health and care business to the level that may be required of a qualified actuary in a health and care insurance company.

Health and Care Principles (SP1) core reading is available from the IFoA E-Shop or our tuition provider ActEd (BPP).

From September 2021, an additional 5 minutes has been added to each paper to allow for candidates to download or print, if required, their exam paper.

Health and Care Advanced (SA1)

Specialist Advanced

The aim of Health and Care Specialist Advanced (SA1) is to develop a student’s expertise to a level that allows the successful application of knowledge of the health and care environment and the principles of actuarial practice for health and care business.

It builds on material covered in Subject SP1 and earlier subjects and seeks to equip a student with the skills and broad working understanding of health and care business to the level that may be required of a senior manager of a health and care insurance company.

Health and Care Specialist Advanced (SA1) core reading is available from the IFoA E-Shop or our tuition provider ActEd (BPP).
