Catherine Drummond, Chair, General Insurance Board, provides an update.

I really enjoyed my first GI Board meeting as chair, which took place at the end of September.  It was great to have IFoA President Matt Saker join us to present his thoughts on the potential changes to introduce two new designations of 'Chartered Actuary (Fellow)' and 'Chartered Actuary (Associate)' to the membership.  Read the article Matt Saker wrote in The Actuary, 'Charting new territory with IFoA designations'.

We had an engaging discussion on the objectives for the Board, which include connecting with other relevant professional bodies throughout the year to promote debate and collaboration, and engaging with the profession’s new digital communities platform enabling us to build on our communication channels with members.

We also had helpful updates from various IFoA committees, including our GI lifelong learning committee, our GI research & thought leadership committee, and our GI standards and consultations committee.

I’m keen for us to ensure our activities for the coming year are focussed in the right areas and help support the wider committees and working parties in their own objectives.

Looking forward to the next meeting where we can continue to build on our work to date!
