Why Retire? explores the concept of a binary ‘retired/not retired’ status and the impact of this concept on the structuring of benefit accumulation and decumulation in later life
Key Objectives:
- outline the financial needs, ambitions and expectations of people in later life
- review current options and incentives (including tax treatment) for taking retirement benefits
- examine the gap that exists between what is available and what people want
- outline principles for financial provision in later life when retirement is not a binary status.
Research is expected to focus on the UK pensions environment but may draw from international experiences.
Outputs:
- Paper for the Actuary Magazine in late 2015.
