Initial work will focus on definitions associated with cardiac related illnesses and surgical procedures and will cover:
- current incidence rates
- the impact on future trends
- the potential for future trends and shocks.
The Critical Illness Working Party will then perform a detailed analysis of the impact of socio-economic profile and location on the CI incidence rates for the key CI conditions of cancer, heart attack and stroke. This will include an analysis of the effectiveness of the use of postcode, in conjunction with geo-demographic profilers, as a proxy for socio-economic profile.
Further research in the same areas will then be carried out covering the non-cardiac illnesses.
Outputs:
- Extending the Critical Path (Health and Care Conference, 2013)
- SIAS presentation
- Sessional paper February 2014.
