Alan Whalley is the Chair of the Management Board of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA).   Alan’s career as a consulting actuary focussed mainly (but not exclusively) on workplace pensions.  With Watson Wyatt (now Towers Watson) he opened new offices in Manchester and Leeds.  He was appointed Head of the UK Benefits Practice in 1995, European Management Partner in 1999 and US Regional Manager in 2004.  Alan then served as UK Chief Executive for Mercer until his retirement in 2012.

Alan gained a Mathematics degree from University College, Oxford and became a FIA in 1982 and later a FPMI in 1989.  He holds a number of other positions, including being the Chairman of a Trustee Board and member of the PMI Council.
