Topics being covered at this year's Current Issues in Pensions are as follows.

09.00-09.30: Registration
09.30-09.35: Welcome - Rosie Fantom

09.35-10.35: Global Macro Trends

With the global economy showing signs of recovery, investors are starting to ask why and how long this might last. This session will look at the key drivers of growth, today and tomorrow, also touching on a longer term theme relevant for pension scheme investing, the driver of demographic changes on the global economy.

Speaker: James Carrick, Legal & General Investment Management

10.35-11.35: Pensions Dashboard

This workshop will cover some background to the Pensions Dashboard – why it is being developed, what work has been done to date, who is responsible and the likely roll-out timetable – before looking at how actuaries may be able to input into its development and what we, as the ‘Future Pensions Landscape’ working party, have been up to.  We are keen to hear what people think are the essential characteristics and what are the ‘nice to haves’.

Speaker: Andrew Lowe, My CSP

11.35-11.50: Morning Refreshments

11.50-12.50: A New Funding Code

Ahead of the formal consultation on a new Code of Practice on Funding in 2019, TPR is talking to interested stakeholders on the design of clearer funding standards. This session will provide an update on this process and other developments in TPR’s approach to regulating defined benefit schemes.

Speakers: Mouna Turnbull and Chinu Patel

12.50-13.40: Lunch

13.40-14.40: Hot Topics in Pensions Law

We are proposing to cover the following topics:

  • ESG considerations and trustees' investment duties

14.40:15.40: Pension Scheme Consolidation

A recap on recent developments, focussing on the new ‘commercial’ consolidators, the Pensions Superfund and Clara, together with a look ahead to the DWP’s consultation on regulating consolidators, and the potential issues for trustees, employers and their actuaries when considering scheme consolidation.
