Monday 21 March 2016 17:30 - 19:00

This is a Bristol Actuarial Society event.

Speaker:

  • Tim Werkhoven, Policy Advisor, IFoA

The UK government plans to renegotiate its relationship with the EU and to then hold a referendum to stay in, or leave, the EU The public debate is already heating up, with many media outlets commenting, and stakeholders taking views publicly.

The outcome of both the renegotiation and the referendum itself may have significant impacts on many parts of British society, in the short and in the long term. The IFoA believes that it can help inform the debate on issues that are relevant and important to the public interest, using the specific actuarial skills its members have.

The IFoA’s EU Referendum Working Party would like to involve its Regional Groups in the debate, and discuss their thoughts, questions and concerns at regional events.

During this Regional Group meeting, the members can:

  • Receive information about the latest state of EU-play
  • Receive information and give feedback about the IFoA activities during the EU Referendum
  • Discuss and raise issues and concerns members may have. These will be taken back by the EU working party and considered for further action.

The desired outcome is to promote a sense of community for members and debate EU Referendum issues that are of concern to them.  Further, the IFoA would like as many of members’ input and thinking about possible consequences from an actuarial point of view. This will help the IFoA craft research, information and messages that will be beneficial to the public interest.
