Tuesday 5 April 2016 17:30 - 19:00

The date for the EU Referendum has now been set: 23 June 2016. This means that the debates for the UK to remain in, or leave, the European Union will start with full vigour. This is a Question-Time style debate, with renowned speakers.

The referendum outcome could have wide-ranging and significant impacts on many parts of UK society, in the short and in the long term.

The IFoA believes and hopes that these events will make a serious and influential contribution to this once-in-a-generation vote. Our CEO, Derek Cribb, has also made this point clearly in his letter to the editor of the Financial Times.

Speakers will include:

  • Jo Shaw, Salvesen Chair of European Institutions, University of Edinburgh
  • Nigel Griffiths, LabourLeave Scotland, former Member of Parliament, former Deputy Leader of the House of Commons
  • Jim Sillars, Campaigner, former Deputy Leader of the Scottish National Party, former Member of Parliament
  • David Bell, Professor of Economics at the University of Stirling, Fellow at the Centre on Constitutional Change
  • Matthew Anderson; Member of the Advisory Group - Britain Stronger in Europe, Vice President Unicorn ARC (Applied Research Collaboration), Visiting Academic, Aberdeen Business School (MBA programmes), formerly a British Army Officer

Our President, Fiona Morrison, will welcome you at the event.

The debate will be moderated by Derek Cribb, CEO of the Institute and faculty of Actuaries.

The event will end with a networking drinks reception.

We look forward to your attendance and active participation.
