Welcome to the Joint Regional Seminar 2015.  The Joint Regional Seminar (JRS) is an annual event co-organized by the Institute & Faculty of Actuaries, Actuaries Institute Australia and Society of Actuaries with the support of the local actuarial societies in the region and designed to assist actuaries and other professionals in meeting CPD requirements.

The pace of recent global convergence has accelerated touching many aspects in our professional work. Whether it is changing local regulatory requirements or a change of company reporting requirements or a change of company risk appetite, it impacts us as professionals. It challenges many key areas that we are involved in, for instance, product profitability, reserve adequacy, embedded value, solvency, risk management, ALM and financial reporting. Examples of the changes are many: IFRS, ORSA, EC, Solvency II and Comframe. The force of globalisation should provide more opportunities for actuaries in Asia as it requires an expansion of actuarial skill sets.

To help the actuarial profession in Asia develop a comprehensive view and understand the implications of these changes, this seminar with a theme on "A Promising Profession and a Profession with Promises" is designed to allow experienced speakers share their insights on the opportunities and more importantly, the skill sets that are required of actuaries to take on these opportunities. You will be amazed how the profession is becoming more promising with all these changes and the vast spectrum of skills that is available and needed to help deliver our professional promises.  Watch this space for more details in due course.
