We are pleased to be joined by Russell Picot, Specialist Advisor to the Task Force and Nico Aspinall, Chair of the IFoA’s Resource and Environment Board. This webinar is aimed at those members of the actuarial profession who would like to hear more about the work of the Task Force and the implications of the Task Force’s recommendations for the actuarial profession.

About the Task Force:

The Task Force was heralded by Mark Carney’s 2015 speech ‘Breaking the tragedy of the horizon – climate change and financial stability’ and is chaired by Michael Bloomberg, who believes “Climate change is not only an environmental problem, but a business one as well”. The aim of the Task Force is to enhance how climate-related risks are assessed, priced and managed by companies. This would enable investors to make better informed decisions and mean lenders, insurers and underwriters would be better able to evaluate their risk exposure over the short, medium and long-term.

Russell Picot:

Russell Picot is Chair of the Trustee board of the HSBC Bank (UK) Pension Fund and a Director of LifeSight, Willis Towers Watson’s UK DC Master Trust Board where he chairs the Audit and Risk Committee. Russell retired as Group Chief Accounting Officer at HSBC in 2016, having joined HSBC in 1993.  He was appointed a Group General Manager in 2003.

Russell was a co-chair of the FSB’s Enhanced Disclosure Task Force and is a Special Advisor to the Financial Stability Board’s Climate-related Financial Disclosures Task Force, chaired by Michael Bloomberg. He has supported the HRH The Prince of Wales Accounting for Sustainability project since its inception in 2004 and is an ambassador for the International Integrated Reporting Council. He is also a Senior Associate of the Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership.

Russell holds an MA in Mathematics from Cambridge and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
