Ben Kemp, IFoA

Ben Kemp is General Counsel and Director at the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. Ben was formerly a partner in the Regulatory and Professional Discipline department of London law firm, Kingsley Napley LLP. Prior to that he trained and worked for ten years as a solicitor with Shepherd+ Wedderburn LLP. He is dual qualified as a solicitor in Scotland and England and Wales, a solicitor member of the Scottish Solicitors Discipline Tribunal and a member of the Professional Standards and Ethics Committee of the Law Society of England and Wales. Additionally he serves as a Legal Assessor appointed to advise disciplinary panels of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and is a part time tutor in public and constitutional law at the University of Edinburgh. |

Shafique Bhunnoo, President of the Actuarial Society of Mauritius

Shafique Bhunnoo is the President of the Actuarial Society of Mauritius and the Chief Actuary of the National Insurance Company of Mauritius. He is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries UK with nearly 30 years of experience. He was educated in the UK, Mauritius and Zimbabwe and has worked in UK, Middle East and in Africa. He is responsible for Actuarial, Pensions and Investments at NIC, and his expertise spans Life, Health and General Insurance, Pensions and also Takaful products. He has worked with and advised insurance companies, reinsurers, banks and regulators. |

Ashleigh Theophanides, Deloitte
|
Ashleigh is the Actuarial Director at Deloitte who leads the social security, healthcare and advanced analytics practice, Actuarial & Analytical Solutions at Deloitte. Upon qualifying as an actuary in 2004, Ashleigh joined Deloitte as a consulting actuary and senior manager. In 2008 Ashleigh was appointed to the partnership. At Deloitte, she provides strategic advice to government departments, medical schemes, service providers and companies. These services assist clients in linking and executing their operational initiatives with their strategic vision. Ashleigh regularly presents at both local and international conferences. She is also the GMAC (Global Marketing Actuarial Committee Leader) for Deloitte. Here she works with the Deloitte global offices to ensure knowledge sharing, training and increased mobility between the member firms.

Prosper Tafadzwa Matiashe, FBC Reinsurance |
Prosper is a nearly qualified actuary with interests in life and health insurance, data analytics, enterprise risk management and investments. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Actuarial Science degree from National University of Science and Technology (Zimbabwe). He is left with two exams to qualify as Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (UK). Currently he works at FBC Reinsurance Ltd (Zimbabwe). In his current role, he is in charge of product development, pricing, business development, claims assessment and technical reinsurance accounting. Prosper is an active volunteer. He is the current Treasurer of the Actuarial Society of Zimbabwe and is a career ambassador for the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. |

Peter Tripe, Delotte
|
Peter is a Director and the Leader of Deloitte South Africa’s Actuarial practice - the largest Actuarial consultancy in Africa. He joined Deloitte in 2002, having previously been the Valuations Actuary at Metropolitan Life and Norwich Life where he implemented Financial Soundness Valuation and Embedded Value reporting, and has over 20 years’ insurance industry experience both in large life offices and as a consultant. Peter represents Africa on Deloitte’s Global and EMEA Actuarial Executive Committees and is an alternate member of Deloitte’s global Expert Advisory Panel on IFRS 17. |

Marjorie Ngwenya, President of the IFoA

Marjorie Ngwenya is President of the IFoA. Marjorie qualified as a Fellow in 2006 and is based in Johannesburg. She has worked across a number of disciplines including risk management, consulting and reinsurance. She was the editor of The Actuary for three years until the end of 2011. Marjorie is an active volunteer for the IFoA and served for four years as a member of the Audit and Risk Committee. She is a member of the IFoA Management Board. As an overseas member of Council, Marjorie represents the IFoA as an ambassador, connecting with the IFoA’s substantial overseas membership. She is a trustee of the Legal Resources Trust in South Africa.

Bernard Yen, Aon Hewitt
|
Bernard Yen is an actuary and the managing director of Aon Hewitt Ltd, an actuarial, employee benefits, investment, insurance broking and HR consulting firm in Mauritius and part of Aon worldwide. He has more than 32 years’ experience advising pension and provident funds, multinational companies and international organisations, including 15 years spent with Mercer in England and Belgium. He qualified as a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (UK) in 1991. Bernard currently serves as the African continent’s representative on the Committee of Actuaries for the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (based in New York and Geneva) since 2007. Bernard is also an independent non-executive director of a number of listed and other companies in Mauritius. He has written a number of articles for the press and is a regular speaker and trainer at international conferences and seminars. |
