Thursday 12 May 2016 17:00 - 20:00

Microinsurance is affordable insurance that caters to low-income earners who generally have higher exposure to risks often with limited access to social safety nets. Three expert speakers, Eamon Kelly, Jeff Blacker and Henry Yan, will discuss what microinsurance means to the actuarial profession, its complex challenges both locally and internationally and how is it relevant to you.

Eamon will present an overview of the key stakeholders in microinsurance on a global scale, followed by results from a high level study on microinsurance in Africa, covering recent product and market developments and the rapid rise of mass market distribution through mobile. Henry will discuss professional challenges faced by actuaries working in insurance in developing markets, and in microinsurance in particular, including UK and international developments to address these issues.  Jeff will present an overview of his  recent book "Actuaries in Microinsurance"  with focuses on "where to find microinsurance pricing data sources", and "how to find work and volunteer microinsurance opportunities".
