Five year ARC programme wraps up, here’s what we found

The five year Actuarial Research Centre (ARC) funded programme Modelling, Measurement and Management of Longevity and Morbidity Risk has now drawn to a conclusion. The research results and highlights are described in a programme summary paper, and in this short video.

The programme exceeded expectations, delivering outputs beyond its primary aims and yielding rich insights. A substantial body of work was produced including 19 papers published in leading international journals, and a new Longevity Index for England known as the LIFE index and app that provides a benchmarking tool for Actuaries, and a tool for policymakers outside the profession to better understand health and mortality inequalities.

This ground-breaking research was led by Professor Andrew Cairns of Heriot-Watt University and co-sponsored by the Society of Actuaries (SoA) and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA). The research has been a truly global effort, collaborating with sponsors and co-authors from around the world on 32 articles so far.

The team have delivered over 120 presentations of various types including webinars, drawing over 4,500 views on YouTube. Members have used the programme material to register CPD over 1600 times to date.

Thank you to Professor Andrew Cairns and his research team for the successful completion of this programme, to our sponsors, and to the Steering Group for their commitment and guidance over the last five years.
