Discover some of the interesting areas in which organisations, and our members are working in. Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) Council member, Nick Silver, shares this insight and his journey into wider fields.  In doing so Nick encourages members of the IFoA to identify their core skills.  Nick says “Being an actuary is a great qualification, you have a great set of skills, and you can use those skills for almost anything you want and in any geographic location”.

Nick Silver first delivered this presentation to representatives from over 50 organisations attending the IFoA’s annual CPD Co-ordinators’ Briefing, in London, on 14 October 2015.

CPD Co-ordinators play a key role in effective engagement between actuarial employers and the IFoA.  Organisations with three or more qualified actuaries are encouraged by the IFoA to appoint a CPD Co-ordinator, and organisations with multiple offices often appoint one per office.  Some larger organisations appoint one CPD Co-ordinator per practice area, eg, a different person for Life and General Insurance within the same organisation.

Following a peer review, we have created a CPD Co-ordinators’ Guide providing information about this role. Within the guide you will find:

  • Page 4:  sets out the information CPD Co-ordinators will receive,
  • Page 6:  Other opportunities for your organisation to engage, and
  • Page 10: Six examples: how others do it – in this section six CPD Co-ordinators share their thoughts.

CPD Co-ordinators also receive the CPD Co-ordinators’ quarterly newsletter as well as other updates from time to time.  You can view the latest CPD Co-ordinators’ newsletter here.
