We are launching two new streams of CPD to help you hone and keep your professionalism skills up to date.  Please watch out for articles, events and training opportunities on the website, in enewsletters and in The Actuary, which will be indicated by the coloured logos set out below.

Professional Skills

Helping members understand, in practical terms, how the Actuaries' Code is integral to their working lives.  Topics as diverse as Whistleblowing, ETVs, Conflicts of Interest and the Law will be covered in this stream.

  • The Bribery Act 
    Friday 23 March 2012 at Staple Inn.  Registration: 08.15.  Programme:  08.30-09.30
    Michael Twomey, formerly a corporate lawyer with Slaughter and May, has provided legal training for managers and directors of companies ranging from small and medium-sized enterprises to multinationals.  At this event, he will be examining the four offences under the Bribery Act of July 2011, and steps which can be taken to ensure compliance.
    Essential learning for anyone who needs to protect their buisiness, their organisation and themselves from involvement in corruption and bribery.


Providing members with the opportunity to explore or brush up a business skill:  communication, presentation, leadership, style.

  • Written Communication
    Friday 20 April at Staple Inn.  09.00-16.30.  An optional second day will be held on Friday 4 May, also at Staple Inn.
    Back by popular demand, this masterclass has been designed specifically for actuaries by Simon Carne, an actuary-turned-writer, and focuses on three key learning points, reinforced with examples and practical exercises.  An optional second day will be held on 4 May for those that want to take their skills to the next level.
    A must for any actuary whose job involves communicating with others.
  • Making an Impact
    Thursday 7 June at Staple Inn.  16.45-19.00
    The impression you make on others can have a powerful influence on the success of your career.  This masterclass allows you to work with an image expert who has advised people across all disciplines and industries. Course content includes: enhancing your image; managing the perceptions others have of you; personifying your values through non-verbal communication; and dressing to impress.
