The IFoA Diabetes Working Party was formed in February 2018 with an overall aim of developing a mortality table at a granular level for those with diabetes. Diabetes is a leading global cause of morbidity and premature mortality and therefore understanding this condition in terms of prevalence and mortality risk is clearly significant for insurers and actuaries.
We are fortunate to comprise a wealth of experience from across the industry as well as input from leading academics in the field of diabetes; currently, the Working Party is working on a literature review to identify gaps that we hope to fill through collaboration with academics.
Our outputs will include a narrative review of diabetes for the insurance industry, presentation at future conference and finally, development of a mortality table which we will present at a sessional meeting in late 2019.
