CMI Model 2026 benchmarking survey results

Working Paper 213 contains an anonymised summary of the sixth CMI Mortality Projections Model benchmarking survey, which asked insurer and reinsurer Subscribers about their use of the Model. We were pleased to receive responses from 25 Subscribers, including 18 insurers and 7 reinsurers.

  • CMI_2024 was the most commonly used Model version at 31 December 2025.
  • Of those respondents who indicated a likely Model version for use at 31 December 2026, 60% indicated CMI_2025, with around 25% intending to use CMI_2024 and no respondents expecting to use CMI_2020 or earlier versions
  • We asked respondents to provide an indication of their best estimate view of the specific impact of the pandemic on life expectancy. When looking at liability weighted results, the vast majority of respondents indicated that the pandemic has resulted in a deterioration in life expectancy. The liability weighted average impact on life expectancy at age 65 was a 1.1% reduction compared with their pre-pandemic expectation.
  • The paper also contains information on parameters used, life expectancies, and differences between insurers and reinsurers and between longevity and mortality protection books of business.
