The Cancer Modelling Working Party closed down in December 2018. It was developing projections of the likely future financial burden of cancer in England and Wales, covering both direct and indirect costs

The Cancer Modelling Working Party will split projections between the following relevant players:

  • public funding
  • private insurers
  • employers
  • individuals.

The model was intended to be used to develop impact analysis of scenarios such as:

  • public sector rationing
  • disease management programmes
  • variations in treatment pathways.

Main features for the scope of work are:

  • to consider rationing and prioritisation of cancer care and services
  • to consider the implications of mixing of public and private funding (in various forms, e.g. user charges, private medical insurance, out of pocket, savings plans)
  • for the work to have a clear interface with existing and evolving health and social care policies that affect people with cancer, as well as research published by academic groups and think tanks.
