PhD Studentship – This project studies the rapidly expanding population of annuitants who have undergone knee or hip replacement

The impact of major joint replacement on survival is controversial with conflicting results from epidemiological studies.  The project will involve the development and application of novel statistical methods to large scale longitudinal data from three major UK national data resources with the specific aim of developing detailed and robust survival models that characterise individual risk.

The project will develop and pilot novel methods of multilevel survival analysis for modelling longevity both at the individual and the population level.   A range of multilevel survival analysis tools will be prepared that will be open source.
