DB Pensions: An Off-Market Approach
Staple Inn Hall High Holborn London WC1V 7QJ23 March 2016Jon Spain will present his personal view of how UK DB pension schemes have been destroyed by the “mark to market” approach adopted over the last 15 years. One of the reasons for adopting that approach has, of course, been that “society”, especially the EU, has been pushing for guarantees. Sadly, using that approach has required vast amounts of misplaced capital and simply has not worked well.

Sessional event: Operational Risk Working Party
Staple Inn Hall High Holborn London WC1V 7QJThe recent introduction of Solvency II has increased the importance of operational risk assessment and modelling for insurers. Banks already have to allow for operational risk in Pillar I capital under Basel II, but PPI misselling, fines for fixing LIBOR and other large losses have highlighted the need for banks to properly model and understand their operational risk exposures. Meanwhile operational risk poses an existential threat to asset managers.
